Bast (or Bastet) is a charming goddess. She personifies motherhood, and many statues of Bast show her surrounded by kittens. She's a goddess of joy and dancing, which is why she carries a sistrum. But she's fierce as well, for a cat killed the evil Apopis serpent, just as cats will kill snakes today. Bast is shown either as a cat-headed woman or more often as a sitting cat. As a woman, she never has a tail.
Amongst our personal artifact collection is a late-period bronze of Bast holding a sistrum, as well as several seated cat figures. She was extremely popular in late-period Egypt. The famous cat cemetery at Bubastis dates from the waning days of Egypt's history. The Flinders Petrie Museum of Egyptian Archaeology at University College, London (one of London's better-kept secrets, as it's nearly impossible to find) has a fine collection bequeathed by a Bast-lover. Every conceivable form of Bast is represented.

Stuffe & Nonsense Stuffemal plush dolls and animal character figures are original soft sculpture designs, individually hand crafted in California by the Stuffe Staff. While we do have some stuffemals on hand, we usually make them on order, so delivery time for your plush doll will be two to eight weeks. Construction and material details vary depending on our design goals for the character involved and the materials on hand. The plush figures are constructed of mohair, wool, alpaca or high-quality synthetic faux fur. Clothing and costume are also hand-made by Stuffe & Nonsense; jewelry and props are from diverse sources. Stuffe & Nonsense Stuffemals often use glass eyes or small parts and are not suitable for young children.
