Great Sphinx of Giza

The Great Sphinx is a truly colossal sculpture, 65 feet tall and almost 200 feet long. This more conveniently-sized cold-cast resin figurine is 9 inches tall and 7 inches long. It's a pretty good representation of the big statue, though the sculptor of this figure chose to shorten the lion body to normal proportions. The body of the real Sphinx is disproportionately long.

We do not know who or what the Sphinx represents, nor even what it was called originally. The name "sphinx" is Greek and came into use very late, by Egyptian standards. In the New Kingdom, when the sphinx was already at least 1,000 years old, the ancient Egyptians called it Horemakhet ("Horus in the Horizon") or Shesep ankh ("Living image" of Atum).

Stuffe & Nonsense Egyptian figurines and collectibles are modern manufactured decorative objects, made in the style of ancient Egyptian artifacts.
