Khonsu Egyptian God

Statue shows the Egyptian god Khonsu (or Khons) as a young man. Khonsu is a moon god, and his lunar headdress shows the disk of a full moon cradled in a crescent new moon. His hair is braided in the sidelock of a young man, but he also has the curved beard of a god. Khons wears a tight-fitting garment with only his hands free to hold the crook and flail; he can also be shown in mummy wrappings. Khonsu can also appear as a falcon-headed man to emphasize his association with the sky. Painted cold-cast resin figurine is 9.5 inches tall.

Khonsu was an ancient moon god with varying associations over the centuries. In Old Kingdom texts he was a slayer for the king. By the New Kingdom, Khonsu was a relatively benign figure, the son of Amun and Mut, together constituting the Theban Triad. The temple complex at Karnak includes a substantial temple to Khonsu. As a lunar deity he was also associated with Thoth and with the passage of time. Khonsu's temporal responsibility was grave, as he was Khonsu heseb-ahau, "Khonsu, decider of the life span".
