This plush bald eagle in flight looks quite majestic. The feather tips at the ends of his wings are bent as in a strong wind. Construction and detailing of his face and feathers are excellent. The plush figure is about 1/2 of life-size, with a wingspan of 32 inches. He's built with a rigid interior frame to hold his position. We also have a little bald eagle plush that can fit in most rooms more easily.

The "bald" eagle is notably not bald, having a fine coif of soft white feathers. The common name is derived from "piebald" eagle, describing the contrasting white spots of its head and tail against the dark body. The bird's exceptionally tongue-twisting scientific name Haliaeetus leucocephalus is Latinized Greek for the simple descriptive name "white-headed sea-eagle". (Thanks Wikipedia!)

Our national symbol was nearly exterminated by hunting, habitat destruction and pesticides, but has made a stong come-back. Like California condors, eagles have a significant risk of getting poisoned by lead pellets because they eat animals shot by hunters and left to die. Hopefully the bald eagle will continue to prosper when it no longer has endangered species protections.

Hansa produce an assortment of quality plush animal figures designed to capture each animal's beauty and character. Hansa use high-quality synthetic plush, often custom produced for their specific requirements of color, pattern and texture. The Hansa designers use complex cutting patterns with as many different plush variations as needed to get the right appearance for their animals. The fabrics are hand-cut to match each animal's design. Eyes, noses and paws are individually sewn to give each animal its realistic and individual appearance. Many of the animals get air-brushed accents to highlight body or facial details. Then the animals are hand-stuffed creating the unique poses and looks that are distinctively Hansa.

Hansa also make a series of life-size large animal plush which include a structural metal frame that is light-weight but capable of being "ridden" by children and even adults up to 250 pounds in weight. Stuffe & Nonsense cannot stock the large animals, but you can check their full collection at the Hansa Toys USA web site. If you see something interesting there, contact us and we can get it for you.
