Echidna (Spiny Anteater) Plush Toy

Echidna are called "spiny anteaters" because
  1. they're covered with sharp spines, and
  2. they eat ants
The "echidna" name is not so easily explained, as there's no obvious reason to name an Australian animal after a Greek monster that was half-woman and half-snake. This plush version of an echidna is more of a fluffy anteater, as the white-tipped spines are rendered as tufts of long white-tipped fibers. He's very soft and cuddly, and really no more silly-looking than the real thing. The figure is 6.3 inches long.

Echidnas are monotremes, like the platypus, the only other mammal that lays eggs.
