Serket (srq in hieroglyphs) is shown as a woman with a scorpion headdress. She could also be shown as a scorpion with a woman's head, though this form was rare. Goddess of scorpions and venomous creatures, Serket was invoked for protection from these dangerous animals. Serket protected Ra's solar barque from the Apep serpent as it journeyed through the underworld.
